The Beatles made rock history on April 4, 1964, when they held all of the top five spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The achievement came at a time of unprecedented success for the group. At the time they also held the top two albums in the U.S., the top single in the U.K. and the number one and three albums in the U.K.

The group had left the U.K. to make their U.S. debut just months before and had built on the growing Beatlemania with their famed performances on the Ed Sullivan Show in early 1964. By April, they had 12 tracks charting on the Hot 100 chart, and that number they would expand to 14 in the following weeks.
