No doubt aided by the help of current pop superstar [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] and the recently deceased [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Amy Winehouse[/lastfm], classic crooner [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Tony Bennett[/lastfm] hit the top of the Billboard album charts this week with his latest release, Duets II, and along the way broke a record. He became the oldest living artist to ever have a #1 album sitting at the top of the charts. It also happened to be the 85-year-old singer’s very first #1 album.
Duets II contains newly produced material featuring collaborations with Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Mariah Carey[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Carrie Underwood[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Michael Buble[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Aretha Franklin[/lastfm] and more. Ironically, Bennett’s first collection of Duets which was released in 2006 sold more copies its first week of release, but it never held the #1 spot.
Duets II is a beautiful collection of standards which I’ve had in rotation all week. Take a look at some of the highlights.
