The natural chemistry between Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts is undeniable, and it showed during their 22 song set on the first night of their 3 show run at Chicago’s United Center. Opening with a film montage of famous fans sharing their memories of the Stones, the highlights included when Cate Blanchett said, “Just how skinny they are really pisses me off” and when Iggy Pop bluntly commented, “I’d never seen people with teeth like that!”

They came onstage and started the night with “Get Off My Cloud,” “It’s Only Rock & Roll (And I Like It),” and “Paint It Black,” setting the tone for an evening full of eclectic hits spanning 50 years.

Before the show even began, the Stones tweeted a photo of Ronnie Wood with a custom Chicago Blackhawks jersey. (Hopefully this is a good omen for tonight’s match against the Red Wings!)

During the first third of the show, they brought out special guest blues singer Taj Mahal for the band’s debut cover of Dave Dudley’s “Six Days on the Road.” They transitioned smoothly into their recent song “Doom and Gloom.”

The most unforgettable moment of the entire night was the opening of the encore with a local choir singing a Capella for  “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” with Jagger slowing things down to connect with the audience.
