To me Boston has such an electric, powerful sound that their music always makes me feel like a nice sunny day. It would be totally impossible for me to narrow my fav Boston song to just one, but I do have my favorites. “Let Me Take You Home Tonight” just screams Summer to me. Whenever “Rock and Roll Band” comes on K-HITS, I get complaints from the floor above me for noise! “Smokin” definitely gets my party started and “Amanda” would be on my list as a slower, romantic feel.
Boston was my very first rock band interview of my career. I was at my first station in my hometown of Lafayette, Indiana when I got a chance to go see Boston with Rush as the opening act in Cincinnati. I was attending Purdue at the time and loaded some Fraternity brothers into the car and away we went. The record label had set up an interview that I was to do at the post concert party across the river in Newport, Kentucky at a nice club called The Conservatory. The concert was all that and more and the interview after was an amazing experience for a 20-year-old DJ. I was able to talk with Brad Delp and Tom Scholz who kept going for more than they were supposed to. Great guys and truly one of my favorite sounds ever.
My favorite Doobie Brothers song hands down is “Another Park, Another Sunday.” The interesting thing about this song is that it was originally released as a single, but DJ’s flipped it over and played the B side which was “Black Water” which became a #1 single! This song took some heat from radio programmers who took offense to the line “and the radio just seems to bring me down” and yanked it off the air. Tom Johnston who wrote the song was actually saying that songs playing on the radio reminded him of a former girlfriend, which brought him down.
I am anticipating an incredible concert at Montrose Beach with Boston and The Doobie Brothers as we all kick off a long awaited Summer!
