(This blog was originally posted April 22, 2016 – one day after Prince’s death.)
No doubt, Prince moved a LOT of people with his music. Since Noon yesterday, we’re finding out just how large a group that really is!
I’m no exception. In fact, Prince’s music has played a huge role in my career. Oh sure. I’ve played many of his hits over the last 25+ years. However, I’m talking about one particular song…playing one particular role.
In radio, we often don’t know when our final show will be. Station management generally frowns upon a recently fired DJ having control of the microphone. So, when we’re released from our duties, it happens quickly and just AFTER our show ends.
On rare occasion, it is the DJ who chooses to leave. In that instance, we have control of the last song we play on the radio. That swan song for me is “Take Me With U.” Yes, Prince has marked the end of my stay at SEVEN different radio stations! Four of those were right here in Chicago…many moons ago (The 80s Channel, 94.7 The Zone, Energy 92.7 & 5, and Party 103.1).
While I love that song like no other, I hope I never have to play it as my “last song” here at 104.3 K-Hits.
Enjoy the “Take Me With U” video above! It’s from the movie Purple Rain, which MTV had the good mind to air throughout the day yesterday.
