Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore Not A Fan Of His Song ‘People Are People’

When you think of British new wave bands of the ’80s, Depeche Mode is near the top of that list.

The group actually formed in the late ’70s in the UK, but didn’t have their first big hit in the US until 1984.

That was “People Are People” from their Some Great Reward album.

The song was a top-5 hit across the pond and a top-15 hit on the charts here. Despite its success, Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore isn’t a fan of the song.

Gore prefers to write songs with subtle metaphors, leaving room for listeners to have their own interpretations. “People Are People” is a lot of things, but it definitely ain’t subtle.

RuPaul actually did a cover of this song in 2006 that did better on the dance charts than the original!
