A $2 Million Piano, The Bee Gees Make History, An Infamous Album

October 17th music happenings:

2000 – George Michael paid $2.1 million for the piano that John Lennon used to write Imagine.

1999 – Bruce Springsteen performed the first concert at the at the new Staples Center in Los Angeles.

1994 – Billy Joel’s concert opened the Gund Arena in Cleveland.

1987 – The Bee Gees became the first group to have a number 1 hit in the UK in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

1981 – In Maryland, a man was killed during the attempted robbery of a Rolling Stones ticket office.

1977 – Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Street Survivors album was released. That tragic plane crash occurred in Gillsburg, Mississippi 3 days later. A total of 6 people were killed,  including 3 members of the band.

1970 –   Eric Clapton’s After Midnight was released.
