Once upon a time, there were actual stores that rented videos. They were stocked with hundreds of videotapes and (later) DVD’s.
You were able to pick up and read the descriptions written on the box. If you couldn’t decide on which film to get, store employees could suggest some possibilities.
Good luck trying that at Redbox.
Believe it or not, there are still video stores with actual people inside. They’re stocked with newly released movies, classic films and kids movies are free!
Family Video is the name of the chain. They’re based in Glenview, Illinois. The business started as The Video Movie Club of Springfield in 1978. Today, Family Video has more than 750 locations in 19 states and Canada. Last year, they made a whopping $400 million in revenue!
If there’s a store near you, check them out. My family has been going there for years.
