Edward Mahoney was born in Brooklyn on March 21, 1949. He grew up on Long Island. His father, grandfather and brother were all members of the New York City police department.
For a time, Mahoney would follow in his family’s footsteps in law enforcement. However, that association came to an end when he decided to move to California to pursue a music career.
By 1978 he had taken Eddie Money as his professional stage name and Baby Hold On became his first hit record.
He would proceed to rack up 23 hit songs in the next 14 years.
Eddie Money’s biggest hit would debut in August 1986. The woman’s voice in the song belongs to Ronnie Spector.
Happy Birthday Eddie!
