Of course, this is just a parody. It’s not actually Elmo, nor the Sesame Street creators. The parody, which gets kinda dark, is meant to comment on the proposed federal budget. One of the many things this budget wants to eliminate is funds for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which helps pay for PBS. The proposed budget still has to survive the thorough congressional scrutiny before it comes close to being enacted.
“But what about the kids?” Elmo asks in the video.
“They have YouTube, Elmo,” the man behind the camera replies.
