Albert Greene was born April 13, 1946 in Forest City, Arkansas. He was the sixth of ten children. About the time he was 10, he started performing with his brothers in a group (The Greene Brothers).
Al’s family moved to Michigan when he was a teenager. It was there that his father caught him listening to Jackie Wilson music and kicked Al out of the house.
He also listened to the great gospel singers, but the most important music to him was that of Wilson Pickett and Elvis Presley. He really loved Elvis and bought his records whenever he could.
Al Green went on to chart 20 hits songs between 1967 and 1988. In 1995, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
