“Candle In The Wind” has been a hit twice for Elton John, but it was the second go around that was bigger than the first.
In 1973, Elton John wrote the original “Candle in The Wind” about the death of Marilyn Monroe.
It went to #11 as a single in the UK, but was never officially released as a single in the US off of the “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” album.
24 years later he re-wrote some of the lyrics after the death of Princess Diana, which went to #1 all over the world.
