Ever wonder what the E in Shelia E stands for?
It’s actually the first letter of her last name, which is Escovedo.
Shelia E is probably best known for working with singer Prince and songs like “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizzare” but she’s constantly been coming out with music since the late 70’s!
One of those albums was her self titled solo album on Prince’s record label back in June of 1997.
A quick side not is that this album is one of the very first to feature the group Tony! Toni! Toné! before they became big stars!
Prince also reportedly did a ton of production on this album, but it was all credited to Shelia E instead.
Since it’s Hump Day, I decided that her song “Wednesday Like A River” would be a perfect choice to feature!
If you don’t remember this, there’s a reason for it.
Shelia E released this album, but went to tour with Prince not soon after, so she didn’t do a lot of promotion for it.
I don’t know why, but I’ve always thought that this line from “Wednesday Like A River” was especially catchy:
“Wednesday’s like a river, Thursday rivers are lakes…Friday finds me in the ocean, sometimes love is hard to take!”
