Stephen Winwood was born in Birmingham, England on May 12, 1948. It wouldn’t be long before music became a huge part of his life.
Steve was only 4 years old when he began to play piano. Four years later, he joined his father and older brother Muff in a band. Because of his obvious youth, he was hidden behind the piano when the band played in pubs and night clubs.
At 14, Steve and Muff joined the Spencer Davis Group. He went on to become the lead singer of Blind Faith and Traffic. In the 80’s he charted over a dozen hits as a solo artist.
Although Steve is best known as a singer and keyboardist, he’s also a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist.
Of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Steve Winwood at #33.
He’s a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and a two-time Grammy Award winner.
Steve wrote this song while with the Spencer Davis Group. A #10 hit in 1967 that was later covered by Chicago.
