Who Did It Better? The Monkees VS. Smash Mouth ‘I’m A Believer’

When “I’m A Believer” was released by The Monkees in late 1966, it went to #1 and stayed there for seven weeks.

In fact, the single itself sold 10 million plus copies!

But then again, The Monkees were on fire in 1967, outselling both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones COMBINED that year!

But did you know that the song is actually a cover?

Yep, Neil Diamond actually did the song first!

Huh, I¬†wonder if Neil will perform it when he’s at the United Center later on this month?

Here’s the music video for “I’m A Believer” featuring Mickey Dolenz on lead…

If you want to see Mickey Dolenz perform live, he’ll be at The City Winery on June 13th and 14th.

Nearly 4 decades later, Smash Mouth recorded a version of the song for the “Shrek” soundtrack.

This go around wasn’t as big of a chart success as The Monkees though, peaking at #25 on Billboard.

Speaking of “Shrek”, maybe you preferred this version that “Donkey” did at the end of the movie…
