You can sell millions of albums, be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have some of the biggest songs ever, but I guess you’re really not a rock and roll band until you’ve broken up.
That being said, Michael Stipe and the rest of the guys in R.E.M. did last over 30 years together before calling it quits in 2011.
Besides, eventually every group gets back together, don’t they?
R.E.M. left behind a whole bunch of chart topping hits, including this one that we picked for Throwback Thursday called “Shiny Happy People.”
The song, which was from their 1991 album “Out of Time”, was a Top Ten hit, peaking at #10.
But did you know that the song actually has a connection to the group The B-52’s?
Yep, Kate Pierson of that group actually does guest vocals on this one!
While, you and I may like the song “Shiny Happy People”, it seems that the guys in R.E.M. weren’t nearly as big of fans of it as we were.
Apparently, it was a little too poppy and happy for their tastes.
