Happy Birthday To A Musician That Can Do It All

He was born in London on May 19th, 1945.  When he was 19, Peter Townshend became the lead guitarist/songwriter for The Who.

With just one exception (Summertime Blues) Pete wrote all of the legendary bands 26 hit singles.

He’s best known as a guitarist, but can play a dozen instruments and never had a formal music lesson in his life!

His talent and many contributions to music have been widely acclaimed.  Pete Townshend was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.  Other honors include the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and The George and Ira Gershwin Award for Lifetime Musical Achievement.

Not all of his songs were with The Who.  During the 80’s, Pete charted several hits as a solo artist.

This single was released in November 1985.   Face The Face would peak at #26 on the Billboard charts. Listen for “Chicago” in the lyrics.
