A Memorial Day Weekend Monster

News from May 1973:

  • Secretariat won the Kentucky Derby in record time
  • U.S. space station Skylab was put into orbit
  • Senate panel began public hearings on Watergate
  • The Indianapolis 500 was postponed after a 12-car accident.  Gordon Johncock won the race 2 days later

The #1 song in the USA on Memorial Day weekend 1973 was an instrumental.  Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group entered the charts on April 10th and was in the top spot by May 26th. Edgar was the younger brother of Johnny Winter.

The group included Ronnie Montrose,  Dan Hartman and Rick Derringer.
