Who Did It Better? ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ Joni Mitchell VS. Counting Crows

I was going through some of my old vinyl albums and came across the Joni Mitchell album “Ladies of the Canyon.”

That’s the album that you’ll find the song “Big Yellow Taxi” on.

But that’s not the version of the song that was the biggest hit.

Mitchell actually released a live version of the song that charted higher than the original!

The album version was released in 1970 and the live version in 1975.

It was remade by a bunch of artists but one of the most famous has to be the one that was released 27 years later.

Counting Crows and Vanessa Carlton did a cover of the song that was a hidden track on the Crow’s “Hard Candy” album.

It became a radio hit that year and was also on the soundtrack of the film “Two Weeks Notice.”
