Every year around the Spring and Autumnal equinoxes, the sun sets directly to the west.
Chicago is built on a grid. Most of our streets are parallel to either the equator or the prime meridian. That means you can see the sunset occur directly above any east/west street, creating a silhouette out of the skyscrapers.
It’s a pretty cool look known as “Chicagohenge.”
Photographers are ALL over this, usually more in September than March…since it’s a tad warmer. (This year takes that to a whole new level!)
Grab your cameras and join them just before 6:45 tonight. Then, post your pics to social media. It will be MUCH better than all the political posts I’m desperately trying to avoid!!!
