The Cubs Connection To This Birthday Boy’s Biggest Hit

David Lee Roth was born in Bloomington, Indiana October 10, 1955.  At the age of 19 he became the lead singer of Van Halen.

The groups first hit single (#36/1978) was an update of the Kinks You Really Got Me.  The band  followed up with other covers as well as original material.

Their greatest success came from music written by Eddie Van Halen.  David Lee Roth wrote the lyrics for it 2 years later.

Fans remember the song as the introductory theme for Cubs TV broadcasts in 1984 & 1985.

Released on January 14th, 1984, the song was an instant smash and rose to the top of the charts by February 25th.

Jump remained at #1 for 5 straight weeks.
