We all held our breath Monday night at the Bulls game when Derrick hit the floor and then limped toward the bench. Every time I play “Papa Was A Rolling Stone” by the Temptations, I can’t help but remember some of the stories on how this song came about. First, it was written by a couple of Motown writers for the group Undisputed Truth in 1971. The recording didn’t do all that well in sales so it was re-recorded a year later by the Temptations but this time there was extended musical passages with a full orchestra.
